No one has the authority to remove someone for being potentially dangerous. They can only be removed for doing something illegal. I don't know what Maple Cheese did. It sounded like he had a mental illness. I hear he talked to himself a lot.
The rangers and ridge runners can only watch Torch. They can do nothing until he does something.

Here is a tip/message from one of Teresa's uncles (Uncle Al)....he is good people, and lives in Harpers Ferry:
Joe, I'm a family member of Teresa & Paul (Uncle AL). I live in the area where the trail passes through VA and into WV (Bear's Den hostile, Blackburn Trail Center, David Lesser Shelter, Harper's Ferry) and I would recommend stopping at the Horseshoe Curve Restaurant if you stay at Bear's Den. Hikers are definitely welcome and sometimes Jim will drive hikers back up the road. Tracey makes a very generously portioned meal. The crowd of regulars are quite unique also. If you have an idea when you'll be coming through, I'd make every effort to meet you there.

Here is some trail news....Stranger is off the trail as of 6/7.....writes that after pearisburg, he just didnt want to continue....he lists a big group of hikers he would like to give a "shout out" to, Rabbit in on the list.....
