Physical Limits

I discovered a physical limit that I did not know I had. I can not eat three entire dinners with four large sodas and two beers in three hours. The best I can do is two and a half dinners.

I've been doing it every night.

I can't believe you have limits where food is concerned! I've always thought you had a bottomless pit for a stomach.

Comment and question:

I like you thoughts on the "point" of the trail...that makes sence to me.

Question: How many people are typically at the Hostles? I keep reading other peoples blogs (about 2 others...) and they seem to be at the same Hostle at the same time you are (like Elmer's)....and being that most hike's probably dont have blogs (that I can find)...there must be alot of people out there....I had the impression that these Hostles could only handle 3-6 people or so...is that way off....what happens if 25 people show up? Do some get "turned away"? Also, is the # of people on the trail still thinning out?....you seem to still be encountering new people daily....

I'm looking at Hobo Joe's, Strangers, and Feral and Green T's...all on that Trail Journal site....all three are much more cryptic than Joe's writting....but Stranger seems to be basically at the same point in the trail as Joe (was in Hot Springs on Sunday)...Hobo Joe's also seems close...but the entery date's don't make sense...as he seems to have jumped over a hundred miles in a day...so I think the entery date may be off (I know Joe saw him atleast once)....Feral and Green T seem to be about 2 days behind Joe....I think he mentioned them once way back....

I guess what I'm saying is that if you can find even 1 or 2 people on one journal site that are near Joe...then to number of persons on the trail must be huge....as most I'm sure arent on the journal site...or have a blog that you can search....

The hostiles that I'm staying at can handle at least 15 to 25 people indoors. Some have room for camping and some don't. I had the last bed at Elmer's hostile, and that was on the outside porch.

I know Ferral and Green T (The Fragels), Hobo Joe, and Stranger. Hobo Joe is yellow blazing so he may show up in different places at different times. I heard he was going to Ashville last weekend. The Fragels and Stranger dissapeared in Gattlingburg. Heather said the Fragels were in front of me, which meant they too were yellow blazing.

I have no idea how many people are dropping out. We are in front of everyone we knew. Trail news tends to flow backward better than forward. I hear lots of news about people in front of me, but little about people behind me.

The trail guidebook says that 50% of the thru hikers will drop out by Fontana Dam before the Smokies. Thought Foot said he read that 75% of the thru hikers will drop out the first 3 weeks. Its hard for me to know how many are dropping out now.
